Uncolored portrait frontispieces, uncolored and colored additional titles, approximately 1280 hand-colored plates of animals, birds, fishes, and insects. 40 volumes, complete. Small 8vo, publisher's cloth; varying slight wear but quite clean overall; occasional frontispiece or title-page loose, otherwise internally clean; bookplates. Mix set, with all but one published in London rather than Edinburgh and by mixed publisher's (either Allen or Chatto & Windus), volume 9 of birds series is from the Edinburgh edition of 1844 and appeared as volume 19 in that series as noted on the title-page.
