This custom-made yearbook begins with 11 administrators and faculty, including President Nathan Lord, soon to be cancelled for his support of slavery and opposition to the Civil War. Among the 66 students, Charles P. Bailey bears an early notation that he died in 1863 at the Battle of Chickamauga; similarly, Charles W. Carroll fell at the Second Battle of Bull Run, and George W. Quimby at Fredericksburg. Many others have later pencil notes indicating Union military service.
