Robert S. Hughes (1827-1900) was the longtime secretary-treasurer of the Rogers Locomotive and Machine Works, assuming the presidency in 1893. He was also an officer of the related Paterson Horse Railroad Company, which transported the locomotives from the factory to the mail rail line. This collection includes 4 of Hughes's daybook-journals, which allocate expenses among these and other related companies from 1857-1883 and 1895-1900. Also included are a ledger, 1857-1865; 2 cash books, 1857-1880; and 2 volumes of accounts between Hughes and the Paterson Horse Railroad, 1872-91.
