Additional Details

The most substantial item in this lot is a 31-page packet of depositions and land records relating to the history of Cuyler's Patent, Comfort's [Camberfort's] Patent, and Schenectady Patent. The unsigned depositions date from circa 1793-94, and document the oral history around the crudely marked trees and informal agreements that defined these patents in their earliest days. The land records are transcriptions of originals dated from 1672 to 1799. Also included are 5 transcripts of the key documents in the history of the Coeymans Patent in southern Albany County, from the original 1672 Indian deed in Dutch through the 1767 council minutes confirming the patent; the transcripts were made at various times between 1754 and 1767. Provenance: found among the Saunders Lansing papers (see lot 214).
