Additional Details

Henry Ketchum Averill Jr. (1830-1918) was a surveyor in Plattsburgh, NY, and worked throughout Clinton County and the surrounding Adirondack region in the northeastern part of the state. His career began in Plattsburgh in 1851, but he soon left to spend 15 years in Iowa before returning, which explains a gap in the records. This collection includes 23 of his field books filled with text notes, including #2 through #19 complete (1851-52 and 1867-1878), accompanied by a later typescript index. Other volumes include 3 volumes of time books; "Road, Malone to Meacham," 1880; Register of Heights, 1879; a Plattsburgh town line survey from 1889-98; a detailed survey with plats of Clinton County's Beekman and Dean Patents, 1876; and a binder of loose papers including copies of surveying notes dating back to the early 1800s. A few plat maps and sketches are included.
