Album containing over 90 "progress views" assembled by the contractors of the New Croton Dam encompassing the middle years of its construction span with many images illustrating the dangers of this type of building project. Printing-out-paper prints, 7x9 inches (17.8x22.9 cm.), linen backed, mounted recto only, with a number stamp and other numeric notations, on mount verso. Oblong small quarto, gilt-lettered black boards, worn. 1897-1901

Construction of the dam began in 1892 and was completed in 1906. At this time, it was the tallest dam in the world. As part of the New York City water supply system, the dam stretches across the Croton River near Croton-on-Hudson, about 22 miles north of the City.
