Additional Details

Nice example of master terrain-model cartographer Edwin Howell's work, commissioned and hung in the New York State Museum under direction of Frederick J.H. Merrill in 1898. The highest elevation here is the Blackhead Range and many points exhibit wear from decades of touch, indicating the map was well-used in accord with the original intentions of Howell's maps: hands-on learning tools designed to help students more effectively experience and understand the landscape and geology of their represented regions.
