MANUSCRIPT MAP (NEW YORK CITY.) After Tiddeman. A Draught of New York Harbour. Np, 1776 [?]

Additional Details

A small later manuscript note just below the cartouche identifies the map as "From the French Consulate in New York" and states that "A Facsimile of another copy was published in Valentines Manual of 1855." The map in Valentine's Manual is a reproduction of Tiddeman's map titled Draught of New York (published by Mount & Page). This manuscript map follows Tiddeman's mapping closely, but with an added decorative cartouche in the lower left corner, which is dated 1776. Although we cannot be certain that this manuscript map was created in 1776, it is certainly of the period.
