Additional Details

Most of these documents relate to Cornelius van der Veer (1623-1703), a Dutch immigrant to New Amsterdam who was the founder of the Vanderveer family in this country. He settled in the Flatbush area of Brooklyn. Ten of the documents are in Dutch, with the remaining four in English; they include legal and land documents, plus two receipts. The earliest document is testimony concerning Margrieta Provoost and land on "Lange Eylant" (Long Island), with signature of Cornelis van Ruijven as secretary, 15 May 1660. The last document is a receipt for a headstone carved in 1804 by Alexander Anderson for John Vanderveer. Complete list available upon request.
