An order to pay $2,500 to Richard Riker as chairman of the celebration committee, signed by Philip Hone as mayor and others, and endorsed with Riker's signature on verso. The November 1825 event in honor of the recently completed canal was considered to be the grandest celebration in New York's history to that point, and indeed $2,500 was then quite a bit to spend for a party.
