The 7th Regiment of the New York State Militia was composed largely of the city's social elite, and was known as the Silk Stocking Regiment when it later served in the Civil War. They later drilled at the Park Avenue Armory, but are here shown as the guests of the militia in New Haven, CT on an Independence Day excursion.
