Additional Details

A complete run (the 1845-6 issue was followed by the 1847, and no manual was issued in 1867). Valentine's Manual combined the mundane functions of an annual city manual with a profusion of historical data, lithographed city views, and maps spanning the city's history. The first five volumes in particular are scarce today.

In this run, the 1842-3 volume is inscribed "The respects of the author to R.R. Ward Esq.", and the 1857 is inscribed "Presented to Henry T. Kiersted Esq. with the highest respects of the author, D.T. Valentine."
