(NEW YORK CITY.) Currier & Ives. Take the Stonington Line to See the Great Bridge! The Great East River Suspension Bridge. Chromolithograph, 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches, with caption text in red and black; moderate foxing, minor edge wear, minor dampstaining in upper right corner. New York, 24 May 1883

Additional Details

An advertisement for an excursion train to see the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge. Tickets were sold at offices in Boston and Providence. This print is adapted from a well-known Currier & Ives view of the bridge, but printed in an unusual format, smaller than their usual "small folio." It was apparently produced for the circular trade with large margins so that additional advertising text could be overprinted in red. Not in Peters, not in OCLC. No other examples of this format have been traced, for the Stonington Line or otherwise.
