The 7th New York was one of the most famous state militia units of the 19th century, known for the elite social status of its members as well its distinguished service. This volume is arranged by rank, listing all officers and enlisted men of Company C for a thirteen-year period. For each enlisted man is recorded his name, rank, age, date of enlistment, address, occupation, place of birth, previous service, and remarks. Many are marked in red as dropped or discharged. The occupations are almost all white-collar or professional.
