Additional Details

Probable first state; without the modified Parisian imprint or the addition of New York publishers Bailly Ward and Co. The view was apparently first issued in Paris as part of Garneray's very scarce and impressive color plate portfolio Vues des Côtes de France. There seems to be some confusion over the date of publication of the print, although Stokes (Iconography III, page 614) cogently puts it at 1834 based on an accounting of landmarks. The issue is complicated by the extremely inconsistent collation of Vues, which is often seen including groups of plates from subsequent publications. The second state may have been issued as late as 1844.
