Additional Details

The Holland Tunnel connecting lower Manhattan with Jersey City was begun in 1920, and opened to automobile traffic in 1927. The tunnel's original engineer Clifford Milburn Holland died in 1924. It was completed under the supervision of Ole Singstad, who designed the innovative ventilation system. These blueprints include splicing chambers, floor and roof plans, column and girder schedules, longitudinal sections for a ventilation building, electrical conduit plans, and interior details.
