Additional Details

At noon in the heart of New York's financial district, a bomb exploded on 16 September 1920. 38 people died in what was at the time the worst domestic terrorism incident in American history. The perpetrators were never apprehended, though Italian anarchists were generally blamed. The captions on these photos tell the story: "First photos of the explosion"; "Overturned automobile at Morgan's office, photo made a few minutes after the explosion, dead are covered up and still lying on sidewalk"; "J.P. Morgan's side wall covered with blood"; "Street cleaners washing up the blood stains"; "Shoveling up the glass just like snow in Wall St."
