Holme's maps reflect an enduring fascination with Manhattan's history, and specifically with the relationship between its former bucolic state and later regimented urban grid. The maps in his "Conveyancing" series address that duality by layering historic topographical data with then-current street and plot information. The effect is fascinating and handsome. This map covers Little Italy and part of Soho, bounded by Broadway, Prince, Bowery, and Bayard. The area was substantially changed by the development of Canal Street and the Manhattan Bridge.
