Additional Details

The Holland Tunnel between Jersey City and Canal Street, the oldest of Manhattan''s vehicular tunnels, opened in 1927. To accommodate automobile traffic, it featured an innovative ventilation system. These printed volumes include detailed specifications and contract drawings issued to contractors for various aspects of the tunnel construction, from digging the shaft to laying the power cables to building the toll booths. Some volumes were property of Arthur C. Davis (mechanical engineer on the project) or the Mechanical Department. Complete list available by request.
