Additional Details

The album was originally in the collection of the grandson of William H. Friedman, one of the 3 commissioners responsible for completing the $58 million tunnel. The photographs convey the excitement and hard work that ensured the success of this civil engineering project and include the auspicious groundbreaking ceremony, in which F. D. R. is pictured in many images; strong industrial views of "holing through of the tunnel"; and the official opening ceremonies. A program and a handful of aerial pictures of N. Y. C. are also included.<
