Additional Details

A long introduction titled "Quick Transit Through New York" describes the need for a mass transit system in Manhattan, and proposes an elevated railroad. It is followed by the report of General Edward W. Serrell, the chief engineer on the project; and by press testimonials. The photographs are of artist's renderings of a road cross-section, and of the elevated road crossing over a crowded 14th Street. This project was never built, although a competing company launched the city's first elevated railroad up Ninth Avenue in 1868. 5 examples in OCLC, and none others traced at auction.
