Additional Details

The scale of this unusually large map of Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux's Manhattan masterpiece of landscape architecture allows the viewer to examine explicit detail of the park. The map is divided into two halves "The South" and "The North", labeled and overprinted in red; an inconspicuous keyed grid system also appears in red. Using a separate index prepared by landscape architect Robert Demcker, the position of over 640 species and varieties of trees and shrubs can be located throughout the park referencing this grid (index not present). The large map was as much of a tool for early park maintenance as it is a spectacular article for today's collector. The plan is scarce, with only four institutional copies located.
