(NEW YORK CITY.) The Boss Story for Boys. Illustrated broadside with color highlights, 28 x 19 1/2 inches; early repairs on verso, later cello tape repairs, worn with some loss. [New York], circa 1886

Additional Details

An eye-catching advertisement for the pulp periodical Boys of New York, and particularly for its new serialized detective story "The American Vidocq" by "Police Captain Howard." This story was denounced as "worthless adventure" in the January 1887 Edinburgh Review, which helps set the date. Illustrated with an engraved murder scene, the blood tastefully printed in red. No other copies known.
