Additional Details

A view of Brooklyn's industrial heyday, showing a grain elevator at the foot of Second Avenue where it meets the Gowanus Canal. A canal boat is parked out in front, and horse-drawn carts are being loaded with sacks of grain for sale to the newly urbanized masses. This neighborhood, to the west of affluent Park Slope, is still largely industrial.

The photographer was at this 157 Fulton Street Manhattan address from 1883 to 1901, but was there exclusively only through 1890; this mount does not list their other studios. Shaw & Truesdell was at this location by 1884.
