Additional Details

Fine English map of the North Pole with an inset of Nova Zembla. The map is decorated with scenes of an Inuit family dwelling and a whaling hunt. Pitt's intentions were to produce a 12-volume atlas of the world in the tradition of Jansson and Blaeu but his ambitions were compromised and only 4 volumes were produced. The maps in the atlas were composed from Dutch sources but this map is the only original cartography prepared by Pitt himself.
