The ordination of Daniel Story (1756-1804), the first minister of the pioneer settlement of Marietta, Ohio. The sermon was delivered by his brother Isaac Story of Marblehead, MA; they were both uncles of important Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story.

In the rear is the charge read to Story by early Ohio missionary and politician Manasseh Cutler, who discusses the Marietta earthworks archaeological site and the local American Indians at length, and who declares that Story was now "the first regularly ordained and settled minister of the congregational denomination in that extensive country west of the Allegheny mountains" (pages 32-36).
