Additional Details

Charles Elmer DeGroff (1861-1950) took a series of these photographs of the Oklahoma Land Rush in Guthrie. The first of this pair was taken on 22 April (#44), and shows about a hundred men surging across a field with guns and shovels. The second one was taken five days later (#69), and has been identified by the National Cowboy Museum as depicting the brand-new city of Guthrie, filled with tents, carts, and a few rapidly constructed wooden buildings. In the foreground is a small tent bearing the sign "Wilson & Co, Real-Estate Attorneys."
