(OKLAHOMA--RACING) Over 200 snapshots of NCRA dirt racing on the Dewey and Tusla speedway.
The photographs feature drivers next to their modified or supermodifed stock cars, full driving teams posing with championship trophies, cars mid-race on dirt tracks, and vehicles suspended in air or in a collision on the track. The collection also markedly features Mecom Kalb Firestone Tires and the drivers and races the Mecom Kalb team supported. Ferrotyped silver (197) and chromogenic (7) prints, the images measuring 7 1/2x9 1/2 inches (19.1x24.1 cm.), the sheets slightly larger, and the reverse, most with a photographer's hand stamp and inventory number, on verso. 1970s
John Mecom Jr. is an oil and real estate mogul from Houston, Texas and former owner of the New Orleans Saints. In the early 1960s he became heavily involved in motorsports and eventually started the Mecom Racing team. John Kalb joined the enterprise as Mecom's driving manager. The Mecom Kalb team won the 1966 Indy 500 with the driver Graham Hill. The two also owned a large distribution center of Firestone tires in the Houston area.
