Additional Details

San Francisco's Panama-Pacific Exposition marked the first widespread use of floodlighting, which was designed by Ryan, a lighting engineer who was responsible for dramatically illuminating the fair and later on, Niagara Falls and the Chicago Exposition. Ryan combined art and science in his brilliant displays. He introduced the Scintlillator searchlight in 1915, and beautifully lit each exhibition building in a different color.
