Wood engraved title-page, half-title design, and 5 illustrations by McCurdy accompanying text of Chapters 2 and 3 of Genesis from the Old Testament set in 12 point Caslon Bold, hand-printed on double-fold Japanese Masa paper. Folio, plain blue patterned cloth over boards covered in Fabriano paper, tips bumped, scuff to rear; 5-mm short clean tear to bottom left edge of title-page. Colophon with Hillside Press label pasted over Pendel Press imprint; bookplate of Carl Sutton; laid in is a Penmaen Press note with "1 of 4 in McC's possession" added in pencil, laid into press-stamped envelope. Additional Details

one of only twenty unnumbered copies of mccurdy's first book. The press's name was changed from Pendle Press to Hillside Press, then ultimately to Penmaen Press (after Gerard Manley Hopkins' poem "Penmaen Pool") when McCurdy found another printer in Beacon Hill, Boston, using the same name--Penmaen Press records, Dodd Research Center, University of Connecticut, Storrs.
