Additional Details

A rendition of Benjamin West's 1772 oil painting which depicted the signing of the Pennsylvania's seminal peace treaty. It took place in 1683 in what is now the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. This textile print was apparently sold by the yard. A larger surviving fragment at the New-York Historical Society is cropped more tightly on the top and left edges, but contains more of the image in the right edge and foreground. The present copy is filled out with at least three fragments from the same pattern stitched to the larger fragment, including strips on the left and right edges and a large diagonal piece in the upper right corner. Collins, Threads of History 15.
