Thomas Burnett Pugh (1829-1884) was the proprietor of the Star Course of Lectures, a long-running series held at the Philadelphia's American Academy of Music from 1869 to 1884. The series brought in the leading speakers and musical performers of the day, and was considered a central feature in Philadelphia's cultural life. This archive of Pugh's files includes 27 letters received from performers, booking agents, and venue management; 10 paid bills, mostly settling accounts with the Academy of Music; the manuscript cast list for the Boston Ideal Opera cast for HMS Pinafore; 3 contracts with performers including conductor Leopold Damrosch; the press list for an 1880 performance; and the agreement for a 100-person excursion to the White Mountains in 1881.
