Estimate: $ 800 - $ 1,200
(PENNSYLVANIA.) T.H. Newcomer, photographer. Salt print of an early Philadelphia volunteer fireman. Partly hand-colored salt print photograph, 8 x 5 inches oval, on gilt photographer's mount, 11½ x 9 inches; chip to upper left corner, minimal dampstaining. Philadelphia, circa 1858

Additional Details

This fireman served in Philadelphia's Good Intent Engine Company, as indicated by his painted parade hat. Photographer Thomas H. Newcomer was at this 508 North 2nd Street address from 1858 to 1867, and the salt print process suggests a date near the beginning of that period.
