Additional Details

Consists mostly of advertisements, many of them illustrated, printed in an attractive array of colored inks ranging from red to blue to green to orange. The advertisements are arranged topically, with engraved section headers. The first 247 pages are devoted to Philadelphia, and the final portion to Pittsburgh, with separate gilt title pages and introductory text for each city. One advertisement for printer H. Evans of Philadelphia is inserted between the two sections and not indexed, and is the only one printed in both black and color. As Evans advertises himself as a "card & fancy job printer" working in "either black or fancy colored inks," he might well have been the printer of the volume. No complete copies known at auction since 1906, though Swann did handle the Pittsburg portion in 2006. Sabin 61837.
