Additional Details

Six months of daily newspaper coverage from two Philadelphia newspapers, bound in a mostly alternating pattern. Neither newspaper is in a complete run, but the great majority of issues are present for the period covered. Porcupine's Gazette was edited by William Cobbett, an ornery British exile with Federalist sympathies. Includes in-state coverage of Fries's Rebellion, a tax revolt which began in the Pennsylvania countryside in February 1799. The Quasi-War with France also receives coverage. Detailed list of issues is available.
