Additional Details

"The Owl" was a general interest news weekly; favorite cover topics included Klan atrocities, pretty girls, and crime. They apparently aspired to a national audience, but most of the entertainment and society news was local to Detroit, as well as the advertisements. Their masthead evolved from "Sports, Theatrical, Society and Snappy News" to "America's Greatest Tabloid Newspaper." Editors included H.C. Patton and Harry B. Webber.

This lot includes issues dated 20 April 1928, 4, 18, and 25 May 1928, 1 and 22 June 1928, 4, 11, 18, and 25 August 1928, 1, 8, 29 September 1928, 27 October 1928; 3 and 10 November 1928, 15 and 22 December 1928, 5, 19 and 26 January 1929, 2, 9 and 16 February 1929, and 16, 23 and 30 March 1929. 30 March is lacking its final leaf.

None traced in OCLC--another Detroit publication called "The Owl" during this same time period was a monthly newsletter issued by the Detroit Public Library.
