Additional Details

This magazine was launched in 1943, and we have found no evidence that it lasted beyond 1948. In the spirit of Reader's Digest, it featured a mix of original articles, literature, and some articles condensed from other periodicals. Among the "exclusive" articles in this issue are "The English were Amazed at the Brown Yanks," written by veteran Grant Moss, Jr. (himself a "brown Yank"); "Man and His World" by Black philosophy professor Forrest O. Wiggins; and "Hollywood and the Negro" by George C. Morse. Also featured are race-related articles abstracted from white magazines by authors such as Frances Perkins and Helen Douglas; the lead article titled "Crime Wave" is by FBI head J. Edgar Hoover.

The editor of this issue, Ezra Turner (1889-1970), was a St. Louis teacher, described in his obituary as a "retired high school principal and Negro poet." We trace no other issues at auction.
