Additional Details

This ordinance states that "in the past [Bautista] Munoz, as magistrate, made certain ordinances regarding coca and its benefits to the natives," and goes on to regulate in detail the growth of coca, which figured prominently in the daily life and religious ceremonies of the Incas. Cañete's ordinances limited the hours of labor for the coca workers, and regulated the quality and quantity of their "mayz y papas" (corn and potatoes).
