(PERU.) Manuscript confirmation of arms and nobility in favor of Francisco Cabecas Zerion y Solano. 3 full-page illustrations. Leaves 71 to 125, most inscribed recto and verso. Folio, 12 x 8 inches, contemporary vellum, worn; moderate insect damage, heavy ink burns to central section. Lima(?), 2 December 1627

Additional Details

A compilation of three documents tracing the Cabecas Zirion family (spelling varies), starting with a transcript of a 1456 document from Asturias, Spain, and ending with the 1627 document. Each section is attested and signed by Bernardo de Quiros. Both of the full-page color crests depict a lion holding a platter containing three heads. This may be a reference to the tenth labor of Hercules, in which he slew the three-headed ogre Geryon. The third illustration depicts the fallen family patriarch Garsícabecas Jerion with a tree growing from his torso, bearing five descendants as fruit.
