Additional Details

The bookplate on the front pastedown belongs to John Sinkankas, who published fifteen books on gems and minerals, including his monumental work "Gemology: An Annotated Bibliography." In that work, Sinkankas referred to the volume offered here as "the only one employing actual photographic prints (by F. Cole) as illustrations and should be counted as an incunabulum of gemological books so illustrated." Tipped into the title page here is a typed bibliographic excerpt from King, "Antique Gems & Rings," which also mentions this work, perhaps placed there by Sinkankas while compiling his own bibliography.
