Jimmy Baynes learned to play the piano from his mother and picked up the harmonica as well as photography on his own. He worked for the railway for most of his adult life, supplementing his income by photographing events in the African American community where he lived. His work is in the Rock and Roll Museum, the LaMott Robinson Museum and North East Ohio Popular Music Archives. He had his first formal gallery exhibition just before his died in 2010.
