Salted paper print, 6 x 8 inches oval, on original oval mount with photographer's label on verso; possibly copied from a daguerreotype or ambrotype, retouched in the negative, mount trimmed to oval, dampstaining to mount just touching image; captioned on verso in a later hand "Franklin Paxson and wife, father's father and mother." Philadelphia, circa 1860-1861

Additional Details

We have been unable to trace Franklin Paxson and his wife in the census records, but photographer Benjamin Franklin Reimer appeared at this 615-617 North 2nd Street address in the 1860 and 1861 Philadelphia directories. That was a largely Quaker neighborhood at the time, and Paxson was an old Pennsylvania Quaker name.
