Additional Details

James Van Der Zee (1886-1983) was the leading photographer of the Harlem Renaissance and beyond. This lot includes one postcard-sized photograph of an unidentified Harlem street scene, with Van Der Zee's inked "G.G.G. Photo Studio" stamp on verso, minor corner wear. Also included are 3 circa 1930s Real Photo postcards depicting Harlem churches: Union Temple, St. Aloysius Catholic Church; and the Mother A.M.E. Zion Church. These are captioned in the negative, and do not bear van Der Zee stamps or credit; they are printed on unused "Dupont Defender" postcard backs.
