An interesting photograph of a group of African American miners with one white man who does not appear to be their superior. Behind the first row of miners there are three men,. One of whom holds a mule. Indiana possesses some of the largest untapped reserves of coal in the world. There has been ongoing coalmining along the Wabash River since its discovery there in 1736.
