Additional Details

A photographer set up shop in St. Louis, posing tourists in a car reading "Seeing Saint-Louis" with a depiction of the city's Union Station in the background. This one piece of the city's tourist infrastructure was integrated--other known examples feature white passengers in the car, while this one features two African-American men.

The card was mailed by George Maxwell, offering Christmas greetings from a St. Louis hotel. It was sent to Mrs. Polly Wilson Frierson (1868-1916), a divorced African-American cook for a private family living in Columbia, TN.
