Additional Details

An intriguing photograph depicting a seated black man, quite likely a farmer or cattleman, given his dress and cowboy hat. To his right stands an older white woman, with her hand casually placed on his shoulder. To his left stands a younger white woman; she too has her hand on his shoulder. The intimacy shown by both women toward this man would have been tacitly considered taboo in the era that this photograph was made. It is tempting to imagine what stories might fit the image.
