A fine example of this sort of portraiture. In this particular instance, it is all the more interesting in that we have an identified subject. Despite the ringlets, the subject is a young man by the name of Carl Gray Browne. Mr. Brown was born in Roanoke, VA, educated at Andover and attended Harvard where he took his BA in 1913. From his dress, it is obvious that the Browne family had money.
