If ever there were a case of a picture being worth a thousand words, this might be it. This Depression era photograph shows that hunger and poverty are great social equalizers. The people in this room, black and white, are waiting to have their baskets filled with apples, potatoes and cabbages. The setting seems to be a City Hall or some similar official building. A group standing off toward the front left, probably the organizers.
