Additional Details

Governor Bellomont was best known for his dealings with the privateer William Kidd. This letter was issued two years after Bellomont commissioned William Kidd as a privateer, and 5 months after he signed Kidd's arrest warrant. It reads in full: "I send you a letter I receiv'd by a ship that came into this port last week. It comes, I suppose, from the Lords of the Council of Trade, because it came under their cover to me. I desire you will please to signifie your receit of it."
