Additional Details

A complex political broadside from the Populist party attempting to discredit the Democrat Winston by showing him to be a friend of the African-American Republican George H. White. Francis Winston was elected Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina in 1904. George H. White had been elected as a Republican to serve in the U.S. Congress in 1898, the only African American in both the 55th and 56th Congresses.
